Curls Blueberry Bliss

Today is all about Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-in conditioner and gel!

Like I mentioned in my recent review of Kinky Curly’s Knot Today and Curling Custard, I’ve been having a hard time finding the Knot Today leave-in lately.

As a result, I’ve been experimenting with some new leave-in conditioners. And while I was at it, I figured I might as well give some new gels a shot too and turn it all into a review.

With that in mind, here are my thoughts on Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-in conditioner and gel!

Keep in mind, I can only speak from my experience with my 3a/3b hair. My hope is that this review will be a good guide for all the curly girls out there, but your results may be very different from mine.

Side note: This page does contain affiliate links, which means if you purchase something using the product links on this page, I may get a small commission. This comes at no extra cost to you and helps keep this site running. Thank you!

Also, I follow the simplified version of the Curly Girl Method most directly derived from the Curly Girl Handbook. This means the only ingredients I look to avoid are sulfates, silicones, and drying alcohols. If you have more ingredients that you look to avoid, it would be a good idea to check the ingredients for yourself before making a purchase.

Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave-in Conditioner

Pros

Smell

If you like blueberry or fruity scents, this is the product line for you! I found the smell to be fragrant enough to be noticed, but not so overwhelming that you felt like you couldn’t escape it.

Scents are always subjective, but personally, I’m a fan of this one.

Hydration

I found this product to be plenty hydrating. It’s probably more hydrating than Kinky Curly’s Knot Today, but I’d say it’s probably a good fit for nearly any stage of the Curly Girl Method.

You should be able to modify the amount to get the right level of moisture for your hair.

Personally, I had to remove more excess water from my hair after my shower than I usually do, but I was still able to get a quality end result.

Fairly lightweight

I’m big on products that don’t weigh your hair down and while this was a little heavier than the leave-in I usually use, it still didn’t add too much weight to my curls.

While I tend to like a looser curl, I’m not big on elongated or stretched, which can happen with heavier products. This product didn’t have that effect, so I was happy!

Price

I believe I paid about $11 for this leave-in which to me fits the drugstore price point I typically look for in my products.

At this point, I use about a nickel sized amount of this daily when I refresh and about twice that when I wash every 4-5 days.

I’d estimate a bottle will get me about 2 months.

Cons

It was hard to get a hold of

Unfortunately, this product turned out to be almost as hard to get a hold of as the Kinky Curly Knot Today.

And just like with that product, I’m hoping this is a temporary problem because this is a leave-in I would repurchase.

Bottom Line

Ultimately, I really liked this leave-in. I’m not sure I like it more than my Kinky Curly Knot Today, but once I was able to adjust to the hydration level, I’d say I at least liked it as much.

You can (try to) get it on Amazon or Sally.

Curls Blueberry Bliss Gel

Pros

Smell

Once again, the smell in this product line is consistent and if you’re a fan of the blueberry scent, this one definitely fits the bill.

I used both the leave-in and gel together as well as on their own. I didn’t find the scent to be overpowering in either capacity.

Hold

This gave me a pretty good washday hold.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably know that I compare every gel to this Biotera Gel that I’ve had a ton of success with.

I would find my washday results with this gel to be very comparable to when I use the Biotera. Both are medium/strong hold gels.

Texture

I really liked the feel of my hair with this gel. It wasn’t too hard to break up the gel cast and it felt nice and soft when it was dry.

Often times, I find with harder hold gels the cast is hard to break up and I have to scrunch so much my hair ends up frizzy. Because this is a more medium/strong hold gel, I didn’t have that problem.

Definition

I ended up with great curls, which once again, I’d say are comparable to Biotera.

Cons

Refresh-ability

Unfortunately, I didn’t find that this gel held up as well beyond the wash day.

My hair was still wearable after my wash day. But it was also frizzier than usual when I refreshed on day 2 and beyond.

If you don’t refresh, this may not be a big deal to you. It’s also possible your hair may respond differently than mine did.

But solely based on my own experience, I wouldn’t recommend this gel for anyone looking to get multiple good hair days out of one wash.

Price

I got this gel on sale and paid about $12 for it, which seems reasonable to me. However, it’s usually priced between $16-$18 for 8oz, which is more than I typically like to spend on hair products.

I could be persuaded to spend that much if the product were particularly awesome. But for me, I wouldn’t say it’s better than the Biotera gel which I usually pay about $15 for a 32oz bottle.

As a result, I just can’t see repurchasing at the standard price.

Bottom line

Overall, this gel did fine. If you like a blueberry scent, wash more regularly, or find you typically need a little less of a hold, this gel may be worth trying out.

You can get it on Amazon.

But if you’re looking for something similar that holds up better and is more cost-effective, check out Biotera’s Defining Gel.
