I’ve been blogging for a year and a half, and let me tell you, it has changed my introvert/INFJ life!
At this point, my blog brings in a full-time income and requires a minimal time investment.
But beyond that, I’ve found that as an introvert, blogging has made me a happier, healthier, more energized person.
I’m an INFJ, but I think this post is can be beneficial to all introverts.
Here are four reasons blogging is a great job for introverts and how you can get started if you want to give it a shot.

Why Blogging is great for introverts
You control your work environment
When you work for someone else, you often get minimal say in your work environment.
If you’re lucky, you may have an office or space to yourself. If you’re not, you find yourself in a busy, draining open office situation.
But when you work for yourself, on your computer, you can choose your work environment!
It can be your home, in an introvert sanctuary. It can be a low key coffee shop. Or it can be from a deck, overlooking an ocean.
You’re in complete control of what your work environment looks like, which means you don’t have to lose precious energy to the chaos of an office if you don’t want to.
You get to work alone (or with others remotely)
Most introverts prefer to work alone and as a blogger, you can do just that!
You don’t answer to anyone, and you don’t have to cooperate with a co-worker on any kind of project.
You’re also completely removed from any workplace hustle and bustle (which used to impact me way more than I realized).
I can’t even being to tell you how working alone has improved my energy levels.
It’s been amazing for my health, as well as my other interests and the time I spend with my friends and family.
If you grow your blog and decide you want some help, you can hire someone (or several people). But even in those instances, you’ll likely all be working remotely, so you still don’t have to share your space with anyone.
You control your schedule
Some introverts work better in the early morning or late evening hours when the rest of the house is asleep.
When you run your own blog, you can work when you want and for however long you want.
And you don’t have to worry about clearing any vacation time or schedule changes with a boss, which can be a source of anxiety for some introverts.
The longer you do it, the less work you have to do
I’m not going to lie to you. The heavy lifting of the blog work is in the beginning.
Not only is that the most uncertain time, but getting the blog up and running is hands down the most time-consuming part of all of this.
But once that’s done, you can can focus on writing posts, generating traffic, and growing your blog.
And the longer you blog, the more posts you’ll have, which means you won’t need to write as many or work as hard. And you’ll have more time and energy for yourself, your interests, and the people you care about.
While there are no guarantees, it is possible to be making money within the first couple of months with only a handful of posts.
I probably worked about 10-20 hours a week when I first started my blog and made enough within the first few months to quit my part-time job and commit to this more fully.
Now I make a full-time income and only work on the blog about 3-5 hours a week.
This is just my experience–I don’t know if it’ll be yours. But I can at least to you it’s possible, and I know I’m not the only person who’s turned their blog into a full-time income.
How to get started
This is a quick overview of how to start a blog.
It’s also worth noting, starting a blog doesn’t have to be a total leap of faith. You can start working on your blog slowly while you keep the job you have until you know it can be your full-time income.
Pick your topic/niche
Ideally, you want to pick a topic (or a few topics) that you care about, but also seem to have a demand.
You can write about anything you enjoy talking about, but if you want to make money off of your blog, it’s a good idea to pick a topic people also want to read about.
Pick a traffic source
It’s good to have multiple traffic sources, but if you’re just starting out, you’re better off choosing one source and developing a second over time.
One of the most effective traffic sources for bloggers is Pinterest. Pinterest loves new content, and they love connecting their users with quality content.
You can also try for search engine traffic. This has proven to be a good traffic source for me now, but it does take time for search engines to trust your site.
Decide how you want to monetize
The most common ways to monetize a blog are with ads, affiliate marketing, and by selling a product or service.
This blog uses all three.
Ads are, of course, when you sell space on your to advertisers. You can start with Google AdSense, or hold out until you have enough traffic to join an ad network like Mediavine.
Affiliate marketing is when you talk about a product or service and direct your readers to it via a special link. If they make a purchase with this link, you’ll get a commission. (You’ll see an example of this in the next section).
Or you can sell your own products or services. These can be digital products (like the guides I sell), or they can be services you have to offer (maybe you’re a personal trainer and want to book clients for virtual sessions through your blog).
Write some posts
I usually suggest writing 10-15 posts before you set up your blog.
This way you have some content to get you started as soon as your blog is ready to go.
Some of the best types of blog posts include:
- Lists (i.e. Ten Things Introverts Need to Be Happy)
- How-to (i.e. How to Say No As An Introvert)
- Dos and don’t/Pros and Cons (i.e. Dos and Don’ts of the Curly Girl Method)
- Tips (i.e. 13 Disney World Tips and Tricks)
Purchase your hosting and set up your blog
Once you know how you want to drive traffic and monetize your blog, it’s time to buy some hosting space and get your site set up.
If you want to make money off your blog, you’ll need to pay to self-host it. Luckily, hosting is pretty cheap!

Thanks! It is a wonderful article and I am so happy to discover I am not the only introvert in this world!
Maybe I should have started in early 2000 too. I was in the website business, but I didn’t. I only launched my blog a year ago and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself!
So it is very encouraging to read your words!
