If you’re looking for a curly girl approved shampoo, this list has you covered!
Not all curly girls use a sulfate free shampoo, but many (like myself) find their hair responds better when it’s washed on a semi-regular basis.
This may mean washing every few days, every week, monthly, or whatever is best for your hair. And if you want to give shampooing a shot, you’re going to need a curly girl approved shampoo!
With that in mind, here are 25 curly girl approved sulfate free shampoos to consider if you’re in the market for something new!
This page does contain affiliate links, which means if you purchase something using the product links on this page, I may get a small commission. This comes at no extra cost to you and helps keep this site running. Thank you!
Also, I follow the simplified version of the Curly Girl Method most directly derived from the Curly Girl Handbook. This means the only ingredients I look to avoid are sulfates, silicones, and drying alcohols. If you have more ingredients that you look to avoid, it would be a good idea to check the ingredients for yourself before making a purchase.

I have been using DevaCurl products for almost 15 years. Once I discovered this shampoo, I stopped looking for any other. Now, because of Covid, I have to buy shampoo online and am curious about other products – many more for curly hair than 15 years ago – and am open to trying another product.
I’m wondering why you didn’t include DevaCurl in your product list?
There’s a bit of a controversy around DevaCurl products right now. You can read more about it here if you’d like. I’ve never used their products personally, so I can’t speak for or against them, but given the situation, I’m just not comfortable directing people to their products at this time.
